even liberals who've been to syria and aren't just going based on what's printed in the NYT, seem to learn pretty quickly that Assad was the lesser of a great many evils vying for power in Syria. Its literally just the armchairs who have never been there and take western media as gospel
It was such a messy, long conflict I remember somebody back in the second year commenting the modern fog of war is thick with all the social media propaganda. To the end that we likely won't know what happened for decades.
Trying to pick "good guys" and "bad guys" in real time is probably impossible. It's amazing how quickly those informed by western media claimed to be equipped to make that call.
Ive talked to Syrians who also hated Assad and were hopeful after he was deposed. It was a complicated situation, and I think you'd only support Assad if you had an anti-Imperialist framework which many people lack
"Look, just because things are worse now, doesn't mean Assad was a good guy." Like gee. Swell analysis!
ah the eternal cycle of supporting US funded revolutions and immediately backing out after realizing what they have done, forgetting about it and then supporting the new US funded revolution elsewhere. syria is now going to be picked apart by turkey and Israel, minorities will be murdered, and this is exactly what you cheered for fucking stupid ass liberals.
or that Assad was somehow the "lesser" of the two evils (or someone who deserved uncritical support)
Every time you hear an ultra describe "uncritical support", they are, without exception, describing critical support
They want our criticism to come in the form of cosigning imperialist policy. GTFO.
they say that while literally doing uncritical support for a al-qaeda in syria.
"It's so frustrating" translates to "I hate the cognitive dissonance I need to maintain to simultaneously think I am right about Assad while I see how the lives of Syrians are vastly worse than they used to be".
Bingo. These idiots want to have their cake and eat it too.
What is the ideology of 'Assadism'?
"I would prefer ISIS not murder us."?
What we said: "I want my country to stop providing material support to 'rebel' groups in Syria that are really just sectarian terrorists."
What libs heard: "Assad is a great leader and we should make him president of the world"
As someone who's been a supporter of the Syrian Revolution since day 1
Jesus, these guys are all really hooked directly into the NGO industrial propaganda complex aren't they? It's fascinating to see the perfect "international" liberal wounded like this though.
is only fair that they hold al-Sharaa to the same standards as they held Bashar al-Assad to. I've been very disillusioned and very frustrated (and a bit betrayed) that this hasn't been happening and makes me suspicious on whether or not some people really cared for liberation to begin with or suffer the similar campist mindset as their Assadist counterparts
Cynically destroying entire nations just to maintain imperial power? In my anti-communism? But I thought we were liberating people?
The best nuanced course of action I've decided on is to support Syrian civil society, its efforts at organizing itself politically... The transitional government is a self-appointed representative who's mandate and legitimacy to govern can (and should) be withdrawn by civil society when it falls far short of its responsibilities.
just one more color revolution bro, this time it won't create a failed state I swear. Just donate to my "civil society" charity that's totally not a front for more CIA-advised terrorism

this is just the cherry on top lmao. libs are such cowards.
Talking to a pile of corpses Hey if you guys want to start a petition I'll sign it
nuanced course of action I've decided on is to support Syrian civil society,
I hate liberals I hate liberals I fucking hate liberals I hate liberals Jesus fuck me in the shitting christ I hate liberals I hate liberals I hate fucking liberals I hate liberals I hate liberals I hate conservatives too but also I hate liberals I hate liberals I hate
Chat is it """nuance"""" when I support a country having a functional government? Yeah no shit you ducking dork. Nobody is waking up in the morning and going "Gee, I sure do wish I lived in a society that does the opposite of how I know society works just so things can be the absolute worst."
The Germans thought they were doing what was best for civil society when conducting the Holocaust. The Confederacy thought it was doing what was best during the Civil War. The French Revolution, American Revolution, 100 Years' War, and the fucking Punic Wars were all conflicts where people thought they were doing what was best for "civil society."
Liberals are so fucking cartoon brained they think people just want to do evil, instead of people acting in their own class interests to push their class on top. They can't comprehend people have other points of view because their so high on American Exceptionalist brainworms. So we get hot takes like "I support a country having things everyone already agrees on. We should invade for the thousandth time with our imperialist military and murder a bunch of people in the process while creating the next problem where we have the same solution."
makes me suspicious on whether or not some people really cared for liberation to begin
Ultras and opportunists supporting every single US regime change operation, getting exactly same result every time it succeedes: "makes me suspicious on whether or not some people really cared for liberation to begin" time and time again.
The paranoia in me is flagging this reddit post as manufacturing consent for the eventual Israeli annexation/occupation of Syrian lands.
Eh, given how much Israel is able to get away with and win, because no one in the international community is willing to nuke Tel Aviv... you're probably not far off what they intend to do. Especially because 99% of Israelis believe in a greater Israel and are fascists.
People like the author of the OP are incapable of seeing patterns. Why were "tankies" worried about US backed regime change? Even when the regime being overthrown has committed warcrimes?
Maybe because US and it's proxies like Pissrael always use the ensuing chaos to promote their interests at the expense of innocent people. And the most convenient proxies are not principled organizations, but instead people who will commit violence on innocence without hesitation. And the US always prefers those regimes because they weaken the region and facilitate western hegemony.

Jesus fucking Christ, I would give my left nut to gave a guaranteed job, home, and healthcare. One must be some sort of petit bourgeois ghoul to look out at our streets filled with homeless people, climate collapse happening in real time, and actually give a fuck that teens in 1980 Russia couldn't buy jeans.
I remember some very old hexbear comment-poster years ago already coined the idea tankie is just liberal version of woke. This sub is a legacy of that era imo.
Tankiejerk
That sub is full of LARPers. Leftists only for the vibes and aesthetic.
what disgusts me the most about this is that were massacres done daily on Alawis, there's videos of children in Latkia in their home stacked on their families bodies, disfigured corpses, videos of sons being killed infront of their mothers beheadings of elder civilians, yet suddenly now they care? the moment the HTS massacres an area with a group that's supported by "Israel"
yea its absolutely related. the mask is off, israel is going to pick apart syria while using the "defending ethnic minorities from al-jolani" as justification, and as i suspect libs will uncritically fall for it, again.
Why make this about tankies, even? What did tankies do to affect Syria? Do they think the internet is real?
Tankies posted online about opposing US intervention, and that's basically the same as swearing an eternal oath to Assad and joining the Syrian Arab Army if you're a twitter-addicted liberal.
The conflation of twitter and reddit politics with real life, especially WRT foreign policy, is such a disaster. If you're an anarchist, socialist, or communist I wanna see you figuring out how to stop arms shipments to US allies, it doesn't matter who the ally in question is lol (and if it's Al-Qaeda then you obviously have even less ground to stand on)
All of the "but what about the self-determination of Syrian people!" People are really silent rn
Assad is in moscow right? Wonder if the Russians after they win in Ukraine will decide to go back to Syria, and put him back in power. If the conditions there are bad enough he might have a base of support for it. Plus it would be the ultimate "Who must go?"
No that would be dumb, instead I suggest bringing this one Syrian who is very moderate and modern guy who will be perfect for ruling, his name is Abu Hafez Al Latki
Finally! A truly moderate rebel.
The long arc of history bends towards the ophtalmologist.
It's really frustrating being wrong all the time
Well, time to go back to being wrong all the time!
There's never any self reflection with libs. It's let's move on to the next terrible opinion which is somehow coincidentally held by the far right.
It's why I try not to argue with them
I state my point and leave
Not worth raising my blood pressure over dumb shit
Damn tankies, why do they have to keep being right
The times we had
Oh, when the wind would blow with rain and snow
Were not all bad
We put our feet just where they had, had to go
Never to go
Absolutely none of this should have been all.that hard to predict, at least in broad strokes, if you have any historical awareness and basic pattern recognition.
is a massive piece of shit who deserves nothing more than a lifetime in a jail cell
Because of this line I want to think this is actually a bit by one of us based on some old liberal post about being wrong, because I thought I remembered some line like this about Libya complaining about HIllary being wrong? On the other hand I'd think someone more terminally online and with a more encyclopedic knowledge of bits would have recognized it by now. Maybe liberals just say the same things over and over again when they find out they were wrong about regime change (but surely next time will be different!)

The “bad guy” that was deposed in the Middle East ended up getting replaced with someone much, much worse?
