- Sold me house, now what
This is an automated archive made by the Lemmit Bot.
The original was posted on /r/homeassistant by /u/raptor_champs on 2024-06-25 00:39:13+00:00. *** 👋, after living 4 years in this house and adding a lot of automation we sold it, and the new buyers wanted the automation as part of the deal. Which we agree. I am a developer and am used to Hass. We have many moving parts : networking(vlan , firewall rules), blue iris for cameras and Hass, etc. things frequently stop working for one reason or another, it is a complex system, but I just go and fix myself. It is fine and fun for me.
However I want to setup the new owners for success. They are CPAs, know very little about automation and never heard about HASS. What should I do? Is there any newbie friendly dashboards? How can I setup something that won’t break?
For starters I will simplify their WiFi, and remove all firewall and vlan setup , also am planing to get a simpler nvr that works for ip cam, and have a simple Hass setup. Any recommendations?
Thanks

The original was posted on /r/homeassistant by /u/NorsePagan95 on 2024-06-24 00:22:16+00:00. *** Hey everyone, as the title says I want to move away from Google home to a fully local home assistant.
I used to love Google home but have lately found it to be terrible, it's either slow or full of "Hmm I don't know what device you mean" even when it's the only device of that name registered in Google home.
I have home assistant set up with the majority of my IoT devices on a local system, and have been using it for physical control from my phone etc when Google is being a pain or on the rare occasion my Internet goes down.
Does anyone have any good guides for setting up a local LLM with home assistant for full home control, ideally I would like an LLM that can access the Internet for questions I have about events or stuff so it can search the Internet for what I'm asking if but not rely on it for simple stuff or stuff that is in home assistant already.
Also if anyone has any good recommendations for wireless local speaker/mic systems I can use with home assistant that have 0 cloud reliance that would be much appreciated too
Thank you.

I've visited my local IKEA in Norway and noticed they where almost 50% off. Got told they will be discontinued in November this year. Anyone who has inside information if they are going to be replaced? I love these blinds and I'm about to move to another house so it's really unfortunate timing. Too early to buy them now without knowing the windows sizes, but the discount isn't bad at all. Would love to see a smaller second gen though...

I think it's a 2230 M.2 slot with an E key, my hope is that it is compatible with the $25 M.2 Accelerator A+E key. But the slot is called "WiFi1" specifically, not "M.2 PCIe". Is there a risk of a bad surprise there? Like it's not connected to a PCIe line but to a sub-chipset that handles network connectivity directly or something?

My new favorite automation. I have a camera in my kitchen, along with a esppresence.
Using combination of those sensors and time filters, I'm able to tell the first time I come into the kitchen for the day.
Which is cool, because now earlier in the morning, I run RSS feeds and weather through Ollama to create a daily briefing and I cache it and the TTS.
So as soon as I enter the kitchen for the first time in the morning, I have my daily news briefing read to me in the voice of Jarvis. Automatically, without the need for any voice commands or prompts. Gives me the news and weather, and then provides any reminders for weather based needs (i.e. "looks like rain, don't forget to bring an umbrella sir")
I just think that's neat

This is an automated archive made by the Lemmit Bot.
The original was posted on /r/homeassistant by /u/BadMadScientist on 2024-06-20 00:40:21+00:00. *** Hello, hopefully a simple question.
I have about 30 zigbee devices, and growing weekly; when I first set it up it was likely 8 devices.
My coordinator is SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus V2 - my HA is inside a virtualbox; i have 5 HUE bulbs, a handful of sengled bulbs (non repeater) and close to 20 ThirdReality power monitoring plugs. The coordinator is in the middle of the house, on the middle floor; it's connected back to the main server via a powered USB hub (10' cable from server to USB hub, 6' cable from hub to coordinator).
My zigbee network is on channel 25.
I have two other wifi networks - one for home use (tp-link X55 mesh, channel 10 & 36, and an IOT orbi mesh (1 main, 1 sat) on channel 6 (5ghz is switched off). I also have a LoRa network (YoSmart / YoLink) with 62 devices on that network.
My question is, as the zigbee network grows, does the routing change to utilize newer nearer router power outlets? My network is getting laggy in some areas, and a couple of the bulbs are very laggy, with some "undelivered" messages in the HA log. Some days, two of the lamps will stop responding for a while, then catch up a couple of minutes later (so if you turn it on & off five times, and it does nothing, when it does catch up it will go on & off five times quickly).
Any ideas on what I can try to stablize the zigbee network?
- Any clever electric stove monitoring ideas?

We've lived in a small condo for the past few years so I have been able to get away with just having various smart plugs that I would control with alexa.
I stumbled upon Home Assistant in my research for the best way to create a smart home. Some of the solutions you all have is truly unbelievable to me and far beyond what I thought I could do.
The issue is that I am pretty tech savy but HA seems like a whole other level. I am going to study these forums the next few months but I don't think my knowledge will be up to par by the time we move in so my question is two part.
- Security is my biggest concern and I want that day 1. Can I just pay for Ring or Simplisafe then later connect it with HA when I'm ready? Is there a better solution to use for cameras and sensors for the time being that I can later connect with HA?
- If I get the HA Green is that relatively simple to set up for a complete newbie with no coding experience?
