I'm just exhausted. "Unlike you, I believe the cop at my school is human." "I just can't endorse the use of violence." "We can't win anything if we're mean to people." "Hatred never got us anywhere."
Oh, where were you when all of the oppression was happening?
"I didn't agree with that, either."
Didn't think to smugly chide those in power, though, now did you? Because that's inevitable, but our response is unjustified escalation . . .
The Reddit-brained preoccupation with "adults" magically showing up to solve problems and the problem makers being seen as "infants" does speak of immaturity, but that immaturity can sometimes last a lifetime, especially with the "my old man kicked my ass and I turned out FINE" crowd.
It certainly sharpened the edge on their pizza cutter of a pointless take. I'm a Dune enjoyer and it fucking sucks when people derive bad ideas from it.
Yep, blew my mind when I realized the people who were saying "it's a thousand year old religious conflict, an eternal battle between jews and muslims" were 100% full of shit. Israel was invented after WW2 and is a pretty clear cut colony and occupier. It's so simple it's hilarious, Israel is completely illegal and illegitimate
Isolate Israel diplomatically, cut off their funding from Europe/America and watch them slowly dissolve as the military breaks down and most of the population moves back to their original nations of origin.
The incredible thing is that one of the first results for the conflict is an article from the liberal media outlet Vox which calls all three of those talking points a myth
Is that person American? Do they really think of a country born out of genocide just a few hundred years ago is more "adult" than the cradle of civilization itself, continually occupied by humanity since beyond memory, which has seen the rise and fall of countless nations and empires

They do, because to them "history is bunk" and even if it isn't, this time around there are Wunderwaffen and the internet which makes the tides of history irrelevant, so they believe.
This imaginary of the non-European world as inherently stationary and needing to be dragged [by the West] into civilisation kicking and screaming naturally gravitated towards biological explanations of power relations. Within this context, invocations of [...] infantilising tropes were not just distasteful transgressions or individual eccentricities, but rather a way of justifying the imposition and monitoring of a wide range of juridical practices of domination and disciplining.

I was readying a whole rant and your quote covered all my points succinctly. But I want to feel like I'm part of the discussion so I'll just regurgitate relevant stuff from media I enjoy
"Centrism isn't change -- not even incremental change. It is control. Over yourself and the world. Exercise it. Look up at the sky, at the dark shapes of Coalition airships hanging there. Ask yourself: is there something sinister in moralism? And then answer: no. God is in his heaven. Everything is normal on Earth."
"yeah, i've been paying attention to this conflict pretty much since i was born. don't think anything important happened with it before i was born so that's pretty much enough for me to comment on it."
Except in this analogy somebody came into your sandbox, drew a little circle and said that's yours and the rest is mine, keeps knocking down the sandcastle you built in your circle for several decades and then when you got mad and knocked down one of his once your parents kill you.
Its physically painful that most people think like this. Then they point fingers and say that other countries use propaganda and their citizens are clueless about reality.
While my partner didn't have a brain dead take like this, I did have to give them a thorough explanation earlier on why the Israeli occupation is unacceptable and always will be until the settlement is removed. My partner is aware of some terrible policies and why those policies shouldn't exist, but hegemonic diasporas simply aren't on their radar. I'm just glad they're receptive and try to understand rather than falling prey for dumb hot takes like the screenshot above.
