How can there be civilians at all if mandatory conscription is a thing? Every civilian is a potential soldier in Israel. I feel bad for the people who were just born into the world without making any of these decisions and got hurt but they were, whether they like it or not, going to be used as a tool of terror by the Israeli state.

You can't use your civilians as weapons and then fall back and claim they're not a threat.

If Israel ends the mandatory conscription, and lets the civilians stay civilians, I might have more outrage.

I remember back when the ukraine war started that there were videos circulating in my family/friends groups about buildings getting bombed and destroyed, they were saying these buildings were in Ukraine and russia was doing it. A quick google search revealed that these videos were actually from Gaza, they had a clear watermark from a palestinian reporter (they didn't even bother to remove it). I remember calling them out and they didn't care, they were horrified that these buildings were in ukraine but as soon as i mentioned they were actually in palestine, 0 concern.

Now these very same people that were spreading the videos are now spreading the bs about babies getting beheaded, and even pictures of support for Israel with Gaza backgrounds (same as Bieber). 🥴

He is a surprisingly fun writer to read, not just because he's a pretty overt commie. He is really good with imagery; he can paint a picture in your head, which is useful for the pretty unique qualities of his kooky sci fi. Perdido Street Station was bursting at the seams with great pulpy ideas that refreshed a very stale genre for me.
(I have heard some unpleasant things about him being emotionally abusive to his ex though. If you don't like having to separate the art from the artist you might want to keep that in mind.
