It's wild how media illiterate reactionaries are. He couldn't be more Fox News coded without literally having their logo on his chest with a Ben Garrison label. These goobers are going to go blind staring at the sun expecting the teletubbies baby to greet them.
"This white, blond, blue eyed man who mercilessly murders anyone that mildly inconveniences him, and considers regular humans vermin is clearly communist"
To be fair, some of them aren't media illiterate, they're saying all this shit in bad faith. That quote about the absurdity of antisemites comes to mind - they know what they're doing.
The show about a ragtag group of revolutionaries fighting against the corporate-controlled weapons of war that harmed them and keep "order" is actually about how corporatism is just the wrong type of capitalism bro.
Not directed at you but if anyone sees this had the misfortune of watching that awful direct to streaming/dvd adaptation:
The comic is very very different and absolutely worth your time. The movie is more or less just another boring "what if superman but bad" take on the paradigm with the aesthetic of the ussr. The comic has a much more sympathetic view not just of it's version of Superman but indeed of the USSR and of Stalin.
Also there's the punchline that (spoilers):
spoiler
Basically halfway through the story: communism wins due to president luthor having to implement a planned economy to keep the united states afloat. The supreme irony is that by the time the final conflict comes to a head it isn't a battle between socialism and capitalism but rather socialism with Superman characteristics versus socialism with Luthor characteristics. Lol
Communism is whent randian vommitting from the world's most oblivious fascist propagandist and an evil sadistic child-man who is literally an embodiement of America's evil.
Oh no they know about my small gilded votive figure of Stalin to whom i genuflect and make offerings of coca cola and severed small business owner noses!
Isn’t that what they actually believe..? Like the whole “sure communism in theory sounds great, but in practice it always is a totalitarian cult of personality” thing, y’know?
lol sorry by fantasy I didn't mean the genre or setting, but like Mary Sue type writing where communism wins just because the writer wants it to, bad choice of words there.
I'm trying to write some communist fantasy myself! I think leftist writers put in a lot of effort to understand the history and be realistic about it. I've never seen anyone just champion communism because it sounds nifty
I know for a fact that the CHUD that made this has not ever read a book in their life. They just assume that books are bad and full of the things they don't like, like communism and women.
There’s only like 2 instances of communism in the show
The Sandinistas ambushing Contras, the CIA, and their superhero mercenaries in Nicaragua
Soldier Boy being captured by the Soviets
Maybe 3 if you count the Pol Pot-esque “revolutionary” anti-colonial army that killed Kimiko’s family before grooming her into a soldier, but it was never stated what they believed.
There’s not even any metaphors analogies related to it
So is the original poster a lib or a chud? Everyone is assuming chud but in my experience chuds tend to get that Homelander is a stand in for Trump, they just think Homelander is based for killing people
Maybe it's an age thing, maybe boomer chuds are different
He could be an anti-communist lib who thinks Trump is a communist Russian agent
I don't even know. I saw this on a burner twitter account and this was recommended, so I'd say its a chud. I don't wanna go back into that abyss so I won't be investigating further.
reminds me of the opening to this short piece by Nia Frome, The Swerve
Any pop culture artifact is compelling to the extent that it taps into our real desire for change, justice, virtue, freedom, resolution, etc. But it can never go all the way down this road, it can’t consummate this desire, because that would be too threatening to the reigning social order.
I'm not agreeing with it defending the meme, but I do feel like no-one has mentioned that it's not comparing communism to Homelander, but implying that communism looks good on paper but is infact evil in real life. It's got nothing to do with the coding of the characters themselves or whether Homelander is capitalist or communist.
