The thing is when we fret about riots we always picture riots of the past when overall populations were lower, countries didn't have too many deeply interlocked financial interests, and technology was less sophisticated. In a developed country of 300 million people to keep stable with an exceptionally high tech military, any major attempts at rioting will still end up a comparative whimper that soon gets either subdued by institutional forces focused on maintaining predictable markets above all, or have their rage diverted by content made by self-interested private org grifters.

This is like saying 9/11 fundamentally made the US more openly racist which is both true and false depending on how far back you look and what is the standard you take it from.
The US is a country which already children are killed in classrooms, where adults already die from all consequences of poverty and where mass shootings in general are already common.
Point being, things which could be described as "terrorism" everywhere else in the world are already common and some(most?) of these are already on a trend upwards. So it may turn out to be a mistake to think this is some special moment that defined those trends.

The smart thing Democrats won't do now is only ever mention that the shooter was a Republican in unison on every media appearance and have their framing be that Trump's rhetoric is so dangerous it's even hurting him. Dems are too scared of doing things like this that actually work and would force the GOP to exhaust their resources trying to counter message on an issue unrelated to actual governing.
Biden has already pulled his ads temporarily, and all the dems that had spent the past 8 years warning that Trump would be the second coming of Hitler who would hang minorities from lampposts are now wishing him a speedy recovery.
When the next debate starts Biden will probably kneel before him and beg for forgiveness for being too mean to him and inciting violence or whatever.

By my math, if he's 20 now, that would have made him 17 in June 2021 when he donated, which is also too young to vote. He would have had to register as a Republican after that donation, and records show he voted in 2022.

What many of these dumb mainstream outlets leave out is that he donated to Democrats BEFORE he changed his party affiliation to Republican, and then voted Republican. Of course, conservatives will completely ignore that last bit because it suits their narrative, and outlets like NBC only help strengthen it.

What does "registered" Republican even mean? There is no party membership for either of the two parties in the US. Is the address just on some list of "likely republican voter" households (also he's 20, so wouldn't that probably be his parents)?
Primaries in many states are closed, meaning only people registered with the party can vote in the primary. So in 2016 if you were registered independent but wanted to vote for Bernie in the primaries you would have to change your party registration before the primary. At least in many or most states. Some states have open primaries in which case you request either the Dem or Republican ballot.
